Google Calendar is an online calendar and diary tool that is offered free of charge by the search engine company Google. The calendar here can be used for your own purposes or shared with other people so that they can see when you are free or when you have shared events of interest booked in. You can also use the tool to invite them to events that you have scheduled into your calendar and they can make entries of their own if you give them permission.
The Google Calendar was initially designed for computer desktop use and can be used both online and in an offline version. It can now also be used on mobile phones. The alerts system which gives you reminders of times and things to do can be sent out to you either via email message or via a text message direct to your mobile.
There are various calendar versions you can choose from. Standard versions come with weather alerts. There are also some fun designs to choose from such as:
- Phases of the moon
- Google Doodles
- Horoscopes
Google Calendar also has a version suitable for use by businesses. This is usually supplied as part of the Google Apps system which comes with a yearly charge although you can usually trial it for free for a set period.
