Google Mail, usually referred to as Gmail, is a free email system that is offered by the search engine company Google. The email system here is based on webmail principles that allow users to access their email from any computer anywhere in the world whenever they want to.
As well as many standard email features and functions Gmail offers a range of additional tools that many webmail users find useful. For example, Gmail users can download an application that allows them to chat in real-time to other Gmail users via voice, email or video via a webcam. They can also access their emails via their mobile phones.
Gmail comes free and has a set amount of storage space. If a webmail user here runs out of space then they can buy extra space as and when they need it. This space can be used for their Gmail account and can also be used to build extra storage in other Google applications such as its Picasa Web Album service.
The company also offers a Gmail service for businesses. This Gmail option is not free but it does come with a range of additional tools that may be useful for a business. These include the Google Calendar application.
