Google Video

Google Video works very much like the main search function of Google itself. The difference here is that the search term that you enter into the Video search box will only bring up matching results that are videos or related media. Google’s stated aim with this tool in their portfolio is to give their users access to every single web based video that is available. Results here can be:

  • Videos
  • TV shows/clips
  • Film clips
  • Music videos

It was once possible to upload your own videos to Google Video but this is not now generally possible although the site will allow current customers to host their videos on site as usual. To find videos now the site searches the Internet and indexes videos in much the same way that it crawls for websites.

If you own a website and want a video clip or film that you have on there to show up in the Google Video results then there are a variety of things you can do to give you a better chance of this happening. There are pointers on how to build a site that will bring in their crawlers on the Google Video site. The easiest way for most people will be to upload their film to YouTube from which point it will most likely be picked up by Google.
