Google Videos

As part of its range of search engine solutions Google offers a video search facility. This is called Google Video, although it is often commonly referred to as Google Videos. Here the search that a web user makes will not bring up a range of websites -- it is designed to purely bring up video and media clips. The way that the search works in terms of the search word/term that you enter is much the same as a standard web search.

A search on Google Videos can bring up a variety of media clips. You may, for example, be given a page of results that include videos (general and specific), clips and excerpts from TV programmes and films, music videos and any videos that people have made for fun and posted up on the web.

In the past website owners and video makers could have their own videos hosted and uploaded directly into the site. Older users can still use the hosting service but no longer take responsibility for uploading their own video footage. Search results are now based on the standard Google crawlers and indexing systems. This means that you cannot guarantee that your video will appear in a search results page although Google do give a few pointers on how to make it more likely that this will happen. Getting a video on You Tube, for example, will make this easier as the crawler automatically searches the index there.
