Absence Management software is a computer program that a business may use as part of/to set up a Sickness Absence Management (SAM) system. Absences caused by sickness can cost a business a lot of money, especially with larger businesses that employ a lot of staff.
In some cases an Absence Management software package may simply be one element of an overall HR system or it may be packaged up with other Human Resources elements. So, for example, it may be tied up with a Leave/Holiday database and a general employee database. In others the system may work as a stand-alone program.
In most cases the software here will be set to show HR Managers/Senior Managers when it looks like an employee is developing a pattern of sickness absence. This may involve inputting an acceptable figure for sickness days which will trigger an alarm if an employee exceeds this figure.
This allows a business to take control of potential issues here earlier. They may be able to assess if the employee has a problem or a potential health issue and to identify people who are simply using sick days as a way of getting extra time off. This can potentially save any business a lot of money if it is better equipped to manage the number of sick days that are taken.
