Disciplinaries

Most companies, big or small, will have a disciplinary structure in place to help them manage their workforce. The programs set out here will usually have a formal bias and may well be handled by the company’s HR function (or by senior management if the company has no HR department).
There are times when a business will have problems with staff and having disciplinary procedures in place makes it a lot easier for a business to deal with difficult issues in a structured way that protects both the rights of the individual and of the business. This can be useful, for example, if an employee that loses their job makes a claim against the company. If the company can show that the employee breached disciplinary procedures and that the company acted according to these rules then it will simply be in a better position.
Disciplinaries can take various forms according to the company in question. A company may, for example, set out in their employee contract that breaching company rules and regulations can lead to various actions. They may, for example, start with a formal verbal warning, followed by a written warning. From this stage the employee may have their contract terminated if they continue to act badly.
