Employment Law solicitors are qualified lawyers who either specialise solely in Employment Law or who offer this legal area as part of a broader general service. In some instances a business may need to retain Employment Law Solicitors to help them out. They either won’t have specific expertise in-house, even though they have an HR department or they may not be big enough to employ a dedicated HR specialist. As an alternative the lawyer may be hired by the employee in dispute with the employer to represent their interests.
Employment Law specialists can work on various problems and issues. For example, this kind of solicitor may be retained to work on:
- Cases of unfair or constructive dismissal
- Cases that involve discrimination or harassment (i.e. sexual harassment, racial discrimination etc)
- Redundancy issues
- General problems where a case is brought between an employee and an employer.
Most cases dealt with by Employment Law solicitors will be handled at employment tribunals. Experts here can also work to resolve disputes via other means such as dispute resolution where they may work with arbitration services. Again, this may be done on behalf of the employee or on behalf of the employer.
