Employment Law

Employment Law is legislation that protects the rights of employees (and indeed of the companies that employ them) whilst they are in employment. So, for example, if a company wants to sack a member of staff nowadays they need to make sure that they have the right to do this in legal terms and/or that they handle the process correctly. If they do not do this then their employee has the right to challenge them legally (via methods such as tribunals for example).

It is therefore extremely important that any business understands the ramifications of Employment Law as it applies to them and to their employees. In some cases a business may be large enough to employ HR specialists who have qualifications/training in this legal area. Here the specialist’s job may well be making sure that the company does everything by the book to avoid problems happening.

In some cases a company may end up in a situation where it need to take legal advice from an Employment Law specialist or where it needs to retain an Employment Lawyer to help them handle a case that an employee has brought against them. This can happen even if the company has its own in-house experts.
