Human Resources (HR) Management

The term HR management is a ‘catch-all term’ that is often used to describe the methods used by a company to manage its Human Resources processes. This may define the way that the company uses HR and also the way that the HR function is managed and led.
Some companies that are too small to have a stand-alone HR department may still have HR management principles working for them even though they employ few or no specific HR personnel. Here the Human Resources management can still help them manage their employees and meet their business aims. The management here will usually be handled by the owner or leader of the company and may take informal routes as well as formal ones.
This term may take on a broader role in many larger organisations. It may, for example, be simply used to describe the hierarchy of the overall HR department from the HR Director through to any managers or team leaders that are involved in both the strategic and the day to day running of the HR department. This will then be spread down through the organisation via the specific HR management techniques that are used and that impact on the working lives of employees.
