Human Resources (HR) Qualifications
View future HR Training Courses
In the past many people would break into the HR department by starting in an administrative role for a business and then work their way up until they were doing a more formalised HR job. In some cases they might have picked up qualifications along the way but in many cases they simply got on the job experience.
Nowadays, however, it is more common for people to take formal courses to get relevant HR qualifications. Some will do this as part of a university course whilst others may do it on external courses and learn as they go along. Some will study solely for HR credentials whilst others will pick them up as part of a more general business course.
In the UK the most recognised HR qualifications are probably those issued by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (also often known as the CIPD). The qualifications here range from general HR principles through to accreditations in specialist areas of the HR function.
So, for example, you could sit a CIPD course in general subjects such as people management or HR principles. Or/In addition you could study for a specialist HR qualification such as Employment Law, reward management or coaching and mentoring. Many people here may start with general qualifications and then add specialist skills to their learning portfolio as their career progresses.
