Human Resources software packages are computer programs that are designed to be used in the HR function within an organisation. This kind of software has many uses both on a stand-alone HR basis and for the company as a whole. The extent to which a package/packages may be used depends on the individual organisation.
For example, some businesses will simply use one or more specialist software packages here. They may, for example, have a centralised HR system that manages all staff related records and issues and that tracks staff progress, salaries, benefits, training and assessment. Or it may be home simply to the company’s payroll system.
Some companies will simply buy their Human Resources software on an off the shelf basis. Here the software package is ready to use ‘out of the box’ and may not have the capacity to be customised or changed in any way. This solution is often used in cases where the company wants a simple one-off solution to a specific need.
In some cases, especially with larger businesses, the Human Resources software that is used may have been specially designed and built to meet the company’s specifications or adapted from an existing system. Here, the system in question may well spread across the entire HR function and may also be connected with other related business areas.
