Recruitment and Selection Process

Most Human Resources departments in a business will be involved in the recruitment process to some degree, even if they always use recruitment agencies to source candidates for them. In some cases HR may only be involved in administering the recruitment and selection process and internal interviews may be handled by line management. In others candidates may also be interviewed by HR as part of the selection process, either alone or in tandem with other interviewers.
Most HR professionals will, therefore, need to develop specific recruitment and selection skills. They may, for example, need to know how to deal with recruitment and search agencies and how to manage the process of recruiting in tandem with a third party. They may also need to have interviewing, short-listing and selection skills as well as an understanding of how to manage and administer the recruitment process successfully.
In many cases people working in HR will have some training in these areas. This training may have been given as part of a general Human Resources/Business degree or course. Alternatively, it may be given as a one-off or series of connected courses to help them learn the skills necessary to manage the process to best effect.
