Training Design

Training design is a process, often undertaken by the Human Resources department within a company, that builds, assesses and manages the training on offer to employees. A company that offers a lot of training courses or structured training programs cannot simply take a haphazard approach to the courses it offers. They must meet a range of employee and organisational needs and training design can help a business achieve this goal.

Training design isn’t just about choosing or building a training course. There are many different factors that need to be considered here. For example, training must be:

  • Designed with a specific aim in mind and delivered with the aim of achieving this aim.
  • Targeted at the people who will receive it so that it adds value to them as individuals as well as to the company.
  • Be integrated into other training initiatives if applicable and if given as part of a larger training structure that may run over a period of time.

Many HR professionals will attend specialist training design courses to help them better understand how to build training programs within their companies. These courses will help construct and manage training whether it is given internally or externally and as a stand-alone course or as part of a series of courses.
