Performance Management

Performance management is a management methodology that uses the principles of performance and the achievement of goals or objectives as its primary drivers. This involves a business setting one or more specific goals with responsible managers/personnel then involved in measuring their achievement here during the process. They will also make adjustments as necessary through the process to maximise successful goal completion and to solve problems/issues if they arise.
This is a popular type of management methodology as it allows a company to track and monitor progress throughout the process. If a goal falls off track or changes then the company can simply make the necessary adjustments to get it back on track once again. One of the biggest parts of the process here is the setting of specific processes that will take part during the achievement of a specific goal and their measurement -- this is often known as performance measurement.
Performance management can only work if a goal or target is given measurable objectives that mark progress. These measures allow responsible staff to check on progress and goal achievement at each stage throughout the process. Without these measures it becomes harder to assess how a project or goal is actually working or whether it is staying on track.
