Project Management

Project management is a management process that is generally used to ensure the successful completion of a project. This is the term used to describe the formal guidelines that are used to set up, monitor and track the progress during any given project from inception to completion.

Once a project is identified as being an option for a business the formal project management process can be put into place. This process is usually led by a Project Manager who will work with senior executives and project members to ensure that the project gets done. This will involve specific monitoring, tracking and reporting processes.

The Project Manager is likely to be given a project management goal to achieve. This goal may have certain factors built into it such as deadlines, dependencies, budgets and target stages. The aim of the project management process is to bring the project successfully to completion meeting all of these factors.

Project management may be confined to a specific business area or it may work across various areas within the company. A project to set up an accounts system, for example, may initially only involve the finance department. A software system that is due to be launched across a company, however, may involve various departments at various stages of the build.
