In store marketing is a kind of field marketing that uses specific methodologies to get products and services in front of potential consumers as they shop in the most effective way. The most commonly known type of in store marketing is probably merchandising/point of sale displays that you may see in shops and supermarkets. Here, a particular product/service or brand is given a ‘highlighted’ position/sales unit to try and attract interest in it.
There are also a variety of other techniques that can be used in in store marketing. A supermarket, for example, could run a series of cooking demonstrations to market a particular brand of cooking utensils or ingredients. Or, it could have demonstrators circulating throughout the store offering free tasting samples of a product that the supermarket itself or a supplier is promoting.
The aim here is to bring a particular product/service or brand to the forefront of a customer’s shopping experience. In store marketing simply allows a company to make sure that they are given some additional emphasis to a shopper, whether this happens through an eye-catching point of sale display, a demonstration or a special promotion that is marketed to potential customers as they shop with a view to encouraging them to make a purchase.
