Internet Marketing

Internet marketing, also known as online, web and e-marketing, is a type of marketing system that uses online tools such as the Internet and email to market products and services to both potential and existing customers. It can also be used as a means of managing ongoing customer relationships via data management and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems.

There are many different areas that can fall within the general Internet marketing umbrella. These include:

  • Website development which creates a website that can be used as an ‘attraction’ tool to encourage customer conversion and facilitate customer action. 
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) which is used to ‘position’ a website so that it appears high enough on search engine rankings to be shown to a potential visitor.
  • Promotional techniques such as interactive advertising (i.e. Pay Per Click (PPC) and banner advertising), social media and viral and email marketing.
  • Affiliate marketing systems that offer the potential to bring in new customers via affiliate partners and links.
  • Relationship management techniques such as CRM and data management systems that harness online technology to help maintain and manage customer relationships over time.

 

Compared to traditional marketing tools Internet marketing is perceived as having lower costs and a potentially more immediate impact on any chosen audience. It also offers quick and cost effective access to global audiences.
