Marketing is often described as a business science that brings together a business and its products or services together with a customer. This process is often used as an umbrella term to describe a wide variety of techniques that help a business identify customer needs and promote and supply solutions to them to encourage them to buy.
Nowadays the term marketing is often split into two primary types: offline and online marketing.
- Offline marketing -- this term is used to describe traditional marketing techniques that a business might use to help it promote and sell its products/services to a customer. This type of marketing was often defined by the ‘4Ps’ of Product, Price, Place and Promotion. Today’s marketing techniques, however, are often worked around the ‘7Ps’ that added People, Process and Physical Evidence to the marketing mix.
- Online marketing -- whilst the basic principles of marketing may be the same for online marketing the way that this works may be very different. Online marketing uses digital and online tools to market products and services to customers.
In basic terms the marketing techniques that a business uses, whether they use them online or offline, will help them ensure that they give their customers the chance to buy the right products/services at the right time, at the right cost and in the right place.
