Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing is a relatively new marketing methodology that uses Pay Per Click advertising as an online marketing tool. Here, a business will have an advert promoting them or their products/services hosted on a different website or on a search engine. The system works whenever a visitor to that website sees the advert and clicks on it to go through to the site that is running the advert in the first place.

The kind of advertising is extremely popular with Internet marketers as it is perceived as being a low cost form of advertising. The payments that a site makes for this kind of advertising are only made ‘per click’ -- i.e. when a visitor to the site hosting the advert actually clicks on it. The exception comes when you use some of the systems run by search engines. Here, there may be an upfront cost involved whereby you pay for keywords -- your advert will then appear on searches that utilise those words.

Pay Per Click marketing can be an extremely effective form of online marketing. It tends to attract visitors who have already demonstrated a specific interest in a company or its products or services which can result in a lot of ‘warm’ leads.
