SMS marketing, often also called text message marketing, is a relatively new form of marketing that is part of the digital marketing revolution. This form of marketing involves the use of SMS/text messages to communicate with customers/potential customers.

This kind of marketing can be used to send immediate messages to achieve all kinds of marketing aims. It can, for example, be used to tell customers about special offers or deals and to encourage them to make a purchase or to visit a website.

This kind of marketing has grown in popularity in line with our take-up of mobile phones. Most people will own a mobile phone nowadays and most carry it with them most of the time or at least check it regularly for messages. An SMS/text message is cheap to send and quick to hit a consumer. In an ideal scenario it will also get a rapid response even though the number of words you can use here will be limited.

Another benefit to using this kind of marketing is the fact that people are not yet ‘buying’ out of SMS/text marketing as they are with email marketing. Consumers are well aware of email spamming but SMS marketing is still a bit of a novelty to them. So, many people are more likely to read an SMS message than an email message in this scenario which could make the marketing of a message here more effective done this way.
