Web marketing as a whole is used to promote products or services to consumers or businesses via the use of online tools such as the Internet and email. A web marketing strategy, therefore, is a specific plan to use these tools to achieve a specific marketing goal for a business.
Many companies will have a general web marketing strategy in place nowadays that covers all of their web marketing needs. This strategy will tend to be broken down into various elements targeted at specific products/services or business goals. In some cases a business may not have an overall strategy in place but may simply work with one or more strategies on an ad hoc basis as necessary.
So, for example, a business could use various online tools to promote their products and services as a whole. They could have a website in place that operates as the hub of their strategies. This website will use web marketing to optimize it so that it is quickly and easily found by visitors and acts as a central point from which they can take action when other strategies (such as email campaigns, social networking links and advertising, for example) bring the site to their attention.
